Q & A about Creative Jam

How much will the Creative Jam cost?

  • The PRCAC  has secured funding to subsidize this weekend and make it as affordable as possible for local participants to work with professional facilitators.
  • Registration fee: $40 adult / $30 student & seniors (circle one) (plus $5 if registering for visual arts)
  • You may apply to have your fee waived if you have financial difficulty.

Who should participate in the Creative Jam?

  • Students aspiring to develop creatively, technically and aesthetically.
  • Active musicians, writers, artists and thespians looking for a creative spark.
  • People who don’t normally consider themselves “artists” but would like to break away from the mundane to delve into their creative side--would like to draw, write a song or poem or deliver a line.

How is a Creative Jam different from an “ordinary” workshop?

  • Interdisciplinary—theatrical, written, visual and aural. Participants will have the opportunity of a disciplinary exchange in order to try some aspect of each of the artistic media.
  • Creating--artistic creation and improvisation are at the core of all activities. During the Mingles there will be “spot improvisations” just for fun.
  • Sharing—participants must be willing to share raw ideas and incomplete lines; show initial sketches and unfinished drawings.
  • Learning—technique within separate disciplines as well as general, interdisciplinary concepts: how to get started, how to “wrap it up”, what then?

What are the rules of the Creative Jam?

  • All participants must be pre-registered in one of the four disciplines: Photography, Music, Visual Art and Creative Writing. Following the 1st Workshop, a participant would be allowed to change disciplines if space is available.
  • Since the experience and facility of participants in each discipline will vary greatly, please show respect for individuals as well as group activities and facilitators.
  • Other than the above, there aren’t any rules. The schedule is primarily there to serve as an outline for the facilitators and group work. Individuals are free to break away and work independently as their creativity may demand.

What should a participant take away from the Creative Jam?

  • Inspiration and creative ignition.
  • Joy—a sense of “That was fun; when can we do it again?”
  • Artistic fellowship--removing the walls of isolation that often affect artists.
  • Knowledge—expanded technique and new approaches to one’s art
  • And, perhaps, an opus of your own.
