Prince Rupert Community Arts Council Awards 2021-22
The PRCAC wishes to continue its biennial awards program started 2020 to recognize exceptional artists of all genres living in Prince Rupert and surrounding communities. We encourage you to nominate local artists of any genre – including but not exclusively – music, theatre, dance, visual arts - performance or creative arts of any genre. Self-nominations are welcome.
Outstanding Artist Award – full-time concentration of the arts endeavour, professional – your business is your art
Outstanding Artist Award – less than full-time concentration of the arts endeavour – your art is one source of income but not your sole source
The Awards Committee will receive the nominations, and after consulting with the nominees, and will determine which category the nominations more appropriately belong.
There will be 2 - $1000 prizes.
The competition is open to residents of Prince Rupert or nearby surrounding communities. (Port Edward, Villages of Lax Kwa’alaams, Kitkatla, Metlakatla and Hartley Bay but not Terrace or Haida Gwaii)
SELECTION OF WINNERS Shortlisting
Up to six finalists will be selected over the two categories, by the PRCAC Arts Award committee,
A jury of 3+ will be selected by the Awards Committee after categorizing and shortlisting the candidates. The genre of the finalist will determine the jury selection. Board members will not be on the jury. Jury members will remain anonymous. Jury members should be loca
The selection of the jury will consider First Nations, ethnicity, geographic location, as well as the genre of the art.
SELECTION CRITERIA Nominee will: (Instructions to the jury)
Make some or all of their income from their art.
Have a commitment to this community. Minimum 3 years residence
Exhibit high quality in their art
Have a history of involvement in their art over time
Demonstrate recent evidence of work in their field
Have been involved in teaching/mentoring others in their art
Can be nominated by self or another
Nominations are open now and will close on September 30, 2021
Shortlisted candidates will be announced after Nov. 30, 2021
Winners will be announced at an as yet to be established event in January or February 2022
