Prince Rupert Community Arts Council Awards 2023-24
Two PRCAC Awards of $1000 will be awarded to outstanding artists of any genre who make some or all of theirincome through their art. Nominations Open June 1 and close September 30, 2023 - Anyone can nominate an artist by sending the artist’s NAME, ART GENRE, EMAIL – and a paragraph outlining why the nominator believes the nominee should receive an award, to artsawardspr@gmail.com
The Awards are open to residents of Prince Rupert and surrounding communities – including Port Edward, Metlakatla, Kitkatla, Lax Kw’alaams, Hartley Bay, Dodge Cove, Oona River, Hunt’s Inlet, etc. but not including Haida Gwaii, the Nass Valley or Terrace.
Each nominee will receive an email informing them they have been nominated and be invited to send, by October 30th , the following information to the committee:
Send an outline of your art career (resume).
Demonstrate how your art is a focus in your life.
List any arts awards acquired over time in the art (name of award and year won).
Demonstrate your involvement in the arts community.
Include three (3) arts and/or community based references (nominator can be one of the three). At least one who works in the same or similar field.
Submit a presentation of your work. This can be a link to a webpage, Social Media, a DVD, scrapbook, photos of authentic pieces, etc. No actual work is to be submitted.
Oct. 30 – Final date for submission of artist’s entry portfolio – The Awards Committee will then study the nominees’ portfolios, prepare a shortlist of winners (4 – 6) and determine the jury members (3)
Nov. 30 – Awards Committee forwards the shortlisted nominations to the Jury with necessary instructions.
Dec. 16 – Jury submits the 2 winners to the Awards Committee.
Awards Presentation Event – Date to be determined but later January or early February
Each shortlisted artist will be invited to attend the event and bring 5 or 6 guests.
Each shortlisted artist will present their art at the event, in a way that is suitable for their art genre. It may be a video, a performance, a demonstration, or whatever is appropriate and possible. They may ask someone else to do the presentation if they wish. Each artist will receive a certificate for their success in being a shortlisted candidate for the PRCAC Outstanding Artist Awards.
After the artists’ presentations, the two Outstanding Artist Awards will be presented. Each winner will receive one of our trophies, $1000, and a video session with Mike Ambach to be added to PRCAC’s collection of artist videos.
